Integrated Product Support (IPS)
Australia's leading IPS EXPERTS
Complex assets perform at their best when the right support is built in from day one. Integrated Product Support delivers exactly that: a disciplined framework covering every element required to keep a capability available, reliable and cost-effective across its whole life.
BiORG is Australia’s leading expert in Integrated Product Support. This is demonstrated by our Team being asked to author the Australian Defence IPS manual (released by CASG in June 2026), the framework that underpins how IPS is delivered across the Defence enterprise. We work across all twelve elements, from the early influence of design through to the long-term realities of operational sustainment, giving our clients a support system that performs in service, not just on paper.
What is Integrated Product Support?
Integrated Product Support is the discipline of planning, resourcing and managing the support required to sustain a capability throughout its life cycle. It is defined by twelve interdependent elements, spanning design influence at the front end of a program through to the operational sustainment activities that keep an asset available once in service. Each element addresses a distinct aspect of supportability, yet none functions in isolation: decisions made in one element carry consequences for the others, and the discipline exists to manage that interdependence as a single, coherent system rather than twelve separate functions.
1. Product Support Management
The framework that ties everything together. We coordinate the eleven supporting elements into one coherent plan, aligned to capability requirements and managed across the full life cycle.
2. Design Interface
Support considerations shape the design from the start. We work with engineering teams early to build in reliability, maintainability and supportability while decisions are still easy to influence.
3. Sustaining Engineering
Support systems evolve as the asset ages, as usage patterns shift and as obsolescence sets in. We provide the engineering rigour to manage change smoothly and keep support arrangements current.
4. Maintenance Planning and Management
Maintenance strategy determines availability. We develop and manage maintenance concepts, schedules and tasking that balance readiness against cost and risk.
5. Supply Support
Parts need to be in the right place at the right time. We manage provisioning, spares holdings and supply chain arrangements that keep maintenance moving efficiently.
6. Support Equipment
Every asset needs the right tools, test equipment and ground support gear to be maintained properly. We identify and manage support equipment requirements alongside the platform itself.
7. Technical Data
Technical publications, manuals and engineering data stay accurate, accessible and current. We manage technical data through its life cycle so maintainers and operators can trust what they are reading. BiORG is highly skilled at technical authoring to S1000D and DEF(AUST) 5629 standards.
8. Training and Training Support
A strong support system starts with the people running it. We develop training packages and training support arrangements that build workforce capability and keep it current. BiORG understands and applies the Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL)
9. Manpower and Personnel
Support arrangements depend on having the right people, in the right numbers, with the right skills. We plan workforce requirements against the demands of the asset.
10. Facilities and Infrastructure
Maintenance and support need somewhere to happen. We plan and assess facility and infrastructure requirements so physical capacity matches operational need.
11. Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transport
Assets and spares move and are stored with their condition protected. We manage PHST requirements to safeguard capability wherever it sits in the supply chain.
12. IT Systems Continuous Support
Modern support relies on data and systems as much as physical stock. We manage the IT systems that keep support information flowing and decisions grounded in current data.
Two halves, one system
The twelve elements split naturally across the capability life cycle. Design Interface and Sustaining Engineering sit under engineering influence: getting the asset right before it enters service. The remaining elements sit under operational sustainment: keeping the asset performing once it is in the hands of operators and maintainers.
BiORG works across both halves. We bring engineering judgement to the front end of a program and the operational discipline to sustain it for the long haul, so support decisions made early hold up under real-world pressure later.
